An Thuong is where most foreigners end up in Da Nang, and for good reason. Walkable streets, dozens of Western-style cafes, a 5-minute walk to My Khe beach, and the highest concentration of English-speaking services in the city. But is it worth the premium? Here is the data.

Why Expats Choose An Thuong
Walkability
Da Nang is not a walking city. Most areas require a motorbike or Grab to get around. An Thuong is the exception. Within a 10-minute walk you can reach the beach, grocery stores (Vinmart, mini-marts), pharmacies, gyms, coworking spaces, and dozens of restaurants. If you do not want to deal with a motorbike, this is your neighborhood.
Food and Coffee Scene
An Thuong has the densest concentration of cafes and restaurants in Da Nang. You will find everything from $1.50 banh mi and pho to $15 brunch spots, specialty coffee roasters, craft beer bars, and Korean BBQ. The main streets (An Thuong 1-4) are lined with options.
Community
This is where you will meet other expats. The cafes double as coworking spots. There are regular meetups, language exchanges, and social events. For solo travelers or remote workers who want a built-in social network, An Thuong makes it easy.
Beach Access
My Khe beach is a 5-10 minute walk from anywhere in An Thuong. It is consistently rated one of the best urban beaches in Asia. The stretch in front of An Thuong is clean, wide, and has surf-worthy waves from September through March.
The Downsides
- Premium pricing: An Thuong apartments average $663/month vs $540 in Ngu Hanh Son or $530 in Lien Chieu. Villas are especially expensive at nearly $3,000/month average.
- Tourist prices: Restaurants and services charge more here. A haircut that costs 40,000 VND in Hai Chau might be 100,000 in An Thuong.
- Construction: The area is developing fast. New buildings go up constantly, which means noise and dust during daytime hours.
- Seasonal crowds: Peak season (January through April) brings a wave of tourists. Beaches get busier, restaurant wait times increase, and short-term rental prices spike.
